You know I am never done decorating, changing things and adding details.
Some time ago, I was traveling in Arkansas and stopped at a wonderful
flea market and found these great cabinets doors for sale.
They are perfect for signs, paintings and inspiration boards
with the frame built right in.
I sold many designed with paintings, French graphics and roses,
so I thought I would keep one for myself to place above my kitchen cabinets. An area I continue to work on and let evolve.
First, I painted this treasure a cottage white and added an enlarged
french graphic using the blender pen transfer method, shared HERE,
followed by filling in a bit to darken with a Sharpie Pen.
The graphic is courtesy of
Since this is to be displayed up high, it needed to be darker.
See the smaller graphic? ~ this antiqued version was the inspiration for the look, yet leaving it light enough to be seen from the floor.
Next I began to antique the background and darken the framed edge.
Using acrylic paint in burnt umber and water, working quickly and applying with a soft cloth.
You can apply an extender medium to the paint for a longer work time if you have never done this. All these supplies are inexpensive
and available at most craft centers.
The color goes right over the words and then I float a bit more
color around the high points and edges.
Sand for a bit of distress and age.
To the framed area I darkened it with the umber
and added black to the edge.
I also had some scroll appliques in my stash,
so I added those to the sides and top of the graphic.
Here it is in the new spot above the cabinets in my kitchen.
Notice I took off the door to the plate cabinet and painted the inside cottage cream.
It gave the room a larger feel and displays my toile style dishes.
This area is my message center by the phone, mail holder and flat screen.
The wall color is Heirloom Lace, a custom color from Behr.
Across the room above the fridge area is the Menu tray I shared
HERE.
Do you think, I might paint these cabinets too?
Still deciding, to paint or not???
I do think leaving them the wood tone gives the center of my home an anchor.
But, I've been known to change my mind when it comes to redesign. LOL
The chandelier is on a dimmer and I have added glass crystal drops
with crystal garland. So pretty in the evening with the lights dimmed.
From a plain cabinet door~
To a French Graphic Display.
If you come across these doors, don't pass them up,
they are great to create with.
Have creating and see you next time.
Smiles,
Celestina Marie

You are so awesome.
It looks great, Celeste! I love how you did the inside frame in the dark color. Your chandelier looks so pretty. I have a rather plain one in our dining area that I've been thinking of adding some bling to. I may see how it looks with a few crystals I have before I buy any more.
Wow! That turned out great. Also would make a great tea tray with handles screwed in at each end.
Another wonderful project finished and what an awesome idea. You do amazing work Celestina and this creation is another beautiful piece to inspire others. Carole xox
Dearest Celestina Marie,
Only you would come up with that idea but it worked beautifully.

Wonderful remake, it looks fantastic. I am sure you would have fun painting the other cabinet doors....Valerie
If only I still had the huge number of these doors I would give them all to you for your beautiful painted transformations...Alas they are long gone. With your painting skills I am definitely seeing your kitchen cabinets getting painted. Beautiful addition dear. Safe Holiday Weekend...

That is gorgeous Celeste! So clever to use an old door and have it already framed too, the result is stunning! When I saw the door plaque the first thing I thought of was how cool those graphics would be on all the kitchen cupboard doors. I would vote for painting them and adding different graphics to each door, maybe 1 with a large Fleur de Lis or an old urn mixed in. But don't listen to me, my style runs more modern and I have zero decorating capabilities, lol. Love this wall hanging though. ~Diane
You are so fantastic. I love this one.
Wish you a great weekend.

I love it! It's so beautiful, you did a great job! I would keep you lovely oak cabinets natural,"everybody" has white, your kitchen is so pretty!
Have a wonderful weekend! Linda
What a wonderful job you did with that cabinet door! It looks so great! I buy a lot of great cabinet doors at Habitat for Humanity. They are so inexpensive and also seem like a framed piece when you're finished.
Great job.

Great transformation, no one would ever know you started with a cabinet door...Where did you get the blender pen LOL! I would never be brave enough to paint the cabinets white...But, I love the way it looks...We will stay tuned to see what you decide!

Hi Celeste!
Your cabinet door idea is awesome! It's thinking outside the box that really evolves into unique creations and you are soooo good at it!! Your sign turned out great and is perfect to top your kitchen cabinet area with.
Your cabinets are very beautiful the way they are. When we had our family home I ended up painting our kitchen cabinets but it seemed to be a dark kitchen. The cream color we chose lightened them up and it was just what we needed there. I antiqued them for an aged look just like you did your project here. It took us about 15 years to decide... we don't move too quickly on some things LOL.
Have a great weekend. Hugs to you and Larry, Sherry
Awesome Celeste! Your creations always inspire me!
Thanks for sharing.

Beautiful project. I love the distressing and antiquing you did. Really gave it character.
You are so creative Celeste! The sign is so beautiful and looks perfect where is it placed. Your cabinets are beautiful and warm as they are. If you ever get bored, painting them will certainly keep you busy for a while. :) I love what you did with the chandelier. I purchased crystals to dangle from my brother's chandelier when it was my niece's princess theme birthday party. It was so pretty with all the shimmer!
Celestina... Oh my... awesome job!
I'd love to try it. you are very talented Lady.
Just perfectly Beautiful. Thanks for sharing this Method. That I was looking for long time.

Celestina,
I just love the open plate cabinet. It makes your kitchen look so charming. When we move into our final home, I would like to have a cabinet with glass doors to display a few special things. I love browsing through your home.
Love,
~Sheri
