When I had my booth in an antique mall several years ago,
I came across this awesome Ethan Allen
TV cabinet for our master bedroom.
This piece was a great price and in excellent like new condition.
With it's original dark walnut wood this piece was a gorgeous find with plenty of
storage space in the drawers and drop down desk.
I knew I would paint it at some point and that time came last year when we gave this room and bath a makeover.
Original cabinet.
Staring with brush in hand, I hand painted and distressed the cabinet with a flat water based paint.
The color is pecan sandie, the same paint I used in the laundry makeover.
This cabinet seemed to come alive with it's brighter finish.
The TV doors are lined with a mesh metal covering.
These can be covered with fabric and I have done that
at one time too.
I left the crown original and you will see why in a minute.
Now to the drop down desk, where you see my initials,
I decided to add a graphic.
Using a Tracer Projector,
I picked a graphic from the Graphics Fairy
and centered it in place using the projector.
With the lights in the room off or very low,
the design will show up on your project to be decorated.
Here's the projection
and enlarged to the size I want
by setting the Tracer at a distance to achieve that size.
At this point I lightly trace over the design with a pencil.
Once the design is complete, I hand paint the design with black acrylic paint.
Here is the completed painting.
With the cabinet open for TV viewing.
Across the room is the bed and dresser with wood tone top.
This is why I left the cabinet crown dark.
I never like to have everything totally matchy, so I do have accent pieces in this space as well.
The bed quilt at the foot of the bed is reversible with black and cream stripes on one side
and toile shells and beach theme on the other.
The window above the bed has always been a challenge to work with
and the room can't be moved a different way due to the door going out to the patio.
So I raised the window treatment and rods higher above the window to cover the window completely then
adding the iron header and side vintage arches under the sconces.
Finally a solution for these
eyebrow windows.
The room still has lots of light from 4 more windows and door in the sitting area to the right.
I also painted the sky on the ceiling and clouds.
It is nice to wake up to the sky above.
The room shares space with the master bath
which also got a makeover and lighter look.
Well, that's it~
I decorated both with back toile and cream adding aqua for the summer months.
The before and after Ethan Allen cabinet
with the help of a little paint and french label.
For the Tracer projector,
I got mine at Hobby Lobby.
This one was about 29.99 and I used my 40% off coupon.
It takes a 75 watt light bulb, not included .
With some practice and experimenting with positioning,
you can trace nearly anything.
You could also use a sharpie pen to fill in the design.
I love the paint process
and find it relaxing.
Have a great day.
Joining~
Happy Creating.
Smiles,
Celestina Marie

Oh, so lovely. I have to say that the finished product is so much better than the original. I would have walked right by the dark piece.
I think I might just need to buy a tracer projector. I love the design you used and think I might actually be able to do something like it.

Oh Celestina, your cabinet is beautiful. Its transformation turned out just lovely. What a beautiful bedroom and bath you have, It is so warm and inviting. Very feminine without being so girly it chases away the male figure in your home.
What a great piece, Celeste! I love that paint color, too. It certainly brightened it right up! You have such a pretty bedroom and bathroom. I love the toile.
Thanks for the info on the projector, too. I don't know why, but I expected it to be more expensive. With the coupon I think that is a great price.
Your bedroom makeover is just stunning..I love every detail! I think you have convinced me that I need a projector, thanks for the tutorial! Have a great week Celeste...hugs, Penny
You are amazing. What a transformation. I was just browsing through your blog in total awe. You know you have a book here. Have you ever thought of writing a book Celeste. Your ideas are so wonderful and beautiful.
I was thinking about you yesterday, when I hung a little shelf in RJ's room. The shelf has a small teddy bear, a little wooden tug boat and your beautiful shell. I tell everyone who admires the shell that it was painted from my "White House" artist friend.
You are famous in my house. Your calligraphy pieces are remarkable. I love all of your transformations, but you know how much I love French everything and black and white toile is my preferred backdrop.
Thank you for being you Celeste.

Oh, my...I love your master bedroom and all that you've done with it and the TV entertainment cabinet. It's beautiful! :)
Great project and what a difference. The color goes perfect in the room with all your other furniture. Love projectors when I can get them to work for me. A lot of times I just freehand because I get frustrated!

Your room is elegant yet comfortable looking, a very relaxing atmosphere. You have such perfect taste, everything looks beautiful together. Your painting totally transformed the beautiful cabinet, gave it so much character! ~Diane
Dearest Celestina Marie,
Working with such a simple but very clever Tracer projector was a smart way for creating this personal touch. The crown's color is also perfect with the dark TV when the cabinet is opened. The ceiling with the clouds makes me think of the Grand Canal shops at the Venetian Resort hotel in Las Vegas where we stayed.
Over the years you have added quite some lovely personal touches to your home!
Hugs to you,
Mariette
przepięknie, podziwiam za odręczne malowanie napisów, ja raz próbowałam, ale strasznie trzęsł mi sie ręka :) a sufit z niebem - rewelacja :)
You are a fantastic artist my dear!
that cabinet looks wonderful in its new coat- and the way you made the text is fantastic- I think it is a great idea, but am sure it requires a very steady hand!!
The whole make over looks gorgeous, your room is the most lovely place to relax and sleep, and the bathroom so beautiful, too!

Oh Celeste your cabinet makeover is gorgeous. I love wood, but sometimes it just needs to be updated or to make it fit in with other furniture and this makeover is perfect with the rest of your beautiful room! I LOVE the painted ceiling...I would love to wake up to that every morning too!
Hugs,
Pendra
Celestina, can you just come stay at my house for about a month? You could paint to your heart's content. Your bedroom and bath are beautiful, and I love your tv cabinet make over. I didn't know a projector was that inexpensive. I'm afraid I'd have trouble with the tracing! I am so unartistic. laurie
Good golly, Miss C. This is over the moon stupendous! What elegance you brought in that fabulous piece ...
Your decor is 2D4 Celeste. I love it all.
Hope you all had a lovely holiday ~

Bless your heart for sharing the Tracer Projector with us.. even where to buy it with a reminder about the 40% off coupon! What a friend! So beautiful is your transformation as well as the master bedroom and bath! No wonder we're friends... I'm a black and cream toile girl, myself, through and through!!
Celestina, Beautiful, beautiful, gorgeous! You rooms are so beautiful. I cannot believe all you did was paint that cabinet with a flat paint. I would assume it was sanded first and you used a finish or wax to seal it? You find the greatest pieces. Thanks for sharing your inspiration.
Joyous Wishes, Linda
Amazing as always! The tracer tool looks like a lot of fun to play around with. I want your bathroom! The bathtub looks so inviting after a long day.

Lots of love to you and Larry!

Oh, it's gorgeous!!! I wish I was talented that way. Sadly, I'm not. So, unless something is exactly the way I want it, I can never buy it.
Your whole bedroom is beautiful. With a room that lovely, who would ever want to leave it?!
Hugs,
Patti

Celestina,
Oh my goodness, I don't know where to begin. Your bedroom is so lovely. The original cabinet was very nice with the walnut wood, but it looks fabulous now! I like the way you put your initials in the middle. I love your bed with the iron header, and the dresser mirror is so unique. It all looks beautiful. I'm so glad that I came to visit today, as I love to see ideas for the bedroom and the bathroom. Your bathroom is gorgeous also.
Have a great week.
