Giving a dress form a new look
with an old easy to do finish.
Last year when I updated our guestroom,
I also decided to antique the dress form in this room.
Carol from The Polka Dot Closet
inspired me for this makeover at the time.

I have antiqued many a treasure in my painting journey
and this form was so much fun to makeover.
Starting with a wash of burnt umber paint,
watered down and then lightly scrubbed over the form
using a cotton t-shirt.
Previously I hand painted the form
right over the damask fabric. I shared this in another post
a few years ago.
Fly specked with a stencil brush to give a aged look.
Transferred on the form with a blender pen
and darkened with a sharpie pen.
Distressed the wood and antiqued the stand.
Crocheted collar with vintage pearls.
Added a french words sash around the waist.
Vintage lace added to the hemline.
Antiqued makeover complete.
It's amazing
what a little water and paint
can do.
Along with
French graphics
and accessories.

It's just beautiful, Celeste! I love the antique look you gave the whole base and then the graphics you added. It definitely looks vintage! The added lace at the bottom is a nice touch as is "her" sash. : )
Lovely Celestina! Whenever I see the dress form I created it always puts a smile on my face! I WILL one day, however, splurge and buy one of those antique dress forms with the cool wire cage at the bottom!!!

So pretty!! I have a vintage dress form that I got from a friend's shop that was going out of business. The fabric is coming off and needs replaced. Thanks for posting about yours...it gives me some inspiration.

Celeste the form turned out Beautiful!! Have you ever named her? My forms are all Old Fabric Ones, don't think a overall paint job would be too much appreciated~
