Old Bucket, New Look,

Hi Friends,

I received a pocket hose at Christmas
and could not wait this season to use it.
Do you have one?
I never thought I would like it.
We've all seen the commercials.
You know the one, looks great till you try it and then it's not what they say it is!

Well I'm here to say, it is great.
No kinks, light weight and easy to walk all over the yard when watering.

Since these hoses take up so little space when stored,
I wanted a unique way to keep it neat and out of the way when not in use.

A nice flower pot would work, but I had an old vintage galvanized bucket in my stash
just waiting for a redesign and new purpose!

Years ago in my very country painting days,
this bucket looked like this.

and painted on one side like this!!!

Cute then, but not so much now, right?
It's been put away holding art storage.

So out with the chalk paint.
Two coats to cover well
and let dry.

Now the fun begins~
Adding a few stencils I had in my collection
to each side.

Love this bird on the branch stencil.
I added a Paris stencil to the opposite side of the bucket.

Now to give it a little wear and distress,
I sand and give the surface a wash of burnt umber water based acrylic paint,
keeping it darker in some areas and lighter in others.

The Paris stencil on the opposite side and the wash technique continued.

Next I did another sanding to tone down the stencil paint
and add to the wear.

Now it looks a bit like this up close.

Add a coat of outdoor water based varnish.

Looking old now.

Perfect to hold the pocket hose.

Easier to fill in the bucket then the heavy traditional hoses
that wind around a hose real.
We still have those, but for plant watering, this is so much better.

Here's another bit of yard update I've been working on.
Our outdoor kitchen area.
Nothing fancy or expensive.
Just using what we already had.

The island was from our kitchen redo
and inside holds a little fridge.
I gave it a fresh coat of paint this year
and outdoor varnish.
The tile on the top is old world Rialto.

The pot rack, also from the old kitchen and it has little center lights
which is so nice at night.
An old bar stool for the cook, found at a yard sale.
I added a French postage stencil,
just to give it some character.

Planing to hang a few herbs from the rack.

That's it for today.
It's in the 90's here,
so I'm off to water with my pocket hose!!

See you next time.

Celestina Marie

Joining,

Great update of your bucket, Celeste! I love how it turned out and the stencils. I think you've created a nice little outdoor kitchen area. I'm sure something like this is a must in your warmer climate. I much prefer cooking outdoors when it is hot weather to keep the kitchen from getting overheated. I think that stool would be a nice place to sit while chatting with the cook!

Wonderful job on the bucket! I was curious about those hoses. I have one of the coiled up ones but the water pressure is completely different and disappointing. I may have to give one of these a try! Nice outdoor cooking area!

Wow, what a transformation, that bucket is perfect! I have been wanting one of those hoses and my DH keeps telling me they can't be for real, I am showing him this post tonight! Do I see a stencil you may have made yourself with a Cameo? Looks really cool from wherever it came. ~Diane

Much better bucket!! I just bought a pocket hose. Haven't used it yet, but happy that it doesn't take up so much space like the old one did.

O sorry, forgot to ask, how do you keep wasps out of your outdoor kitchen island? If it were here, they would build their nests all over it!

Oh I Love the Bucket Idea for the Pocket Hose and I think they are fantastic too! I Love your Outdoor Kitchen!!Maybe someday I will have one. But after living here just one year my fingers are crossed for a Potting Bench and Shelf unit. Currently I am using my outdoor Glass Table, and I am so afraid of putting a scratch on it that I cover it with old Towels each time I use it, like everyday right now~
I would have Herbs hanging from the Pot Rack~ You are such a awesome decorator my friend!!

Love how you redid the bucket...it looks great!! I still have some painting patterns from the 80's, but thinking that I should just get rid of them. I recently went thru a lot of old crafting supplies and took a bag full to the GW.

I am in the process of finishing my bucket makeover, and after trying the mod-podge typography transfer on my clay pot, I decided to use a stencil for the bucket instead because it is a lot less complicated. I smiled instantly when I saw your stencil because it was one of the ones I liked while shopping last weekend. I never purchased it because I'm looking for a wreath.
Your bucket turned out gorgeous, Celeste.
