Hi Friends,
Are you glad it's Friday?
Yesterday I stenciled a set of 4 place mats for our outdoor patio table.
The table has a top with tiles in a sand color and I added a few extra terra cotta tiles left from our
inside floors to tie the look together as you walk outside.
Last Fall I found this set of four place mats perfect for the season
with a animal print background and sunflowers.
I think I found these at Home Goods.
Sure wish I could have purchased 2 more for when we sit 6 at this table.
Anyway, the backside was a nice burlap.
So I decided to make them reversible with a design for the season.
I started by measuring and stenciling this design to the center.
I had this one in my stash for a long time and I liked the flower style design
for the idea I had.
I used acrylic paints to do all the details.
I did not mix the paint with fabric medium this time
because I didn't need a soft application.
Then to each side I added another design of a flower stem and leaves
using the stencil in reverse for the right placement.
Next I added a terra cotta flower to pull together the color of the tile
on the table and patio floor.
With the blue of the pool this terra cotta color is a great coordinating accent.
So at this point it looks like this below.
It's okay, but doesn't really look finished yet.
So I added a little off white sand color with another flower and added dots.
Dots can always make a design look complete.
After all were dry, the 4 place mats look like this on the table.
Love the look with this pillow I found recently at Kohl's.
They were having a half price sale and I loved this pillow and knew the color would be perfect.
Up close you can see the flower is created in a crewel work design which
gives the pillow a handmade look.
So that's it~
A reversible set of place mats.
Hope you all enjoy a great weekend.
See you soon.
Blessings and Southern DayDreams

Celestina Marie, I was so impressed when I walked out on the patio last night to see your newest creation. I can't wait to have dinner with you and use the new place mats tonight. B.G.

Very pretty and a clever way to get another look with the placemats, Celeste! I like that you've basically got two looks for the price of one. The terracotta color in the flowers goes very well with your table.
the pillow is perfect for your new placemats, celeste! and the dots do finish the design--i'll have to remember that:)
Love the place mats - you really did a wonderful job on them. I never really looked at the back of them. Now you have 2 sets. Everything coordinates so well with your new flagstone.
Enjoy the pool and patio this weekend.

Look how CUTE they turned out and I love that pillow that pulls the colors out of there, too.! Great job and FUN!
I LOVE your header, Celestina Marie! It is gorgeous! xo Diana
Celeste, the placemats are perfect! I love Terra Cotta & Blue together. I have been thinking about you, and I was so happy to see your post on Bloglovin. For whatever reason Feedburner I think has bit the dust! Sometimes I will get a Bloggers post but fot the main stream they just don't come through to my email anymore. From what I have read, I am not alone. You know I fell in Love with your Potters Bench so my Hubby built me one! Our Gardens are getting close to being done(I just had to use it before painting it), then I will paint the Bench. Need to catch up with you soon!!
Have a Wonderful Week End My Friend~
Huggs, Nancy
Celeste, the placemats are perfect! I love that you have made them reversible. That way you get 8 for the price of 4! Don't we all love bargains like that!

Patti
