I love chalk board art!
Recently I worked on an old art print turning it into a chalk board.
This piece started out like this.
The print is pretty but I was ready for a new look.
So I painted the surface out in chalk board paint.
Primed it with chalk over the entire surface, then wiped it off
making it ready for writing with chalk.
Then using a mix of stencils, graphics and free hand design,
I created the surface to be displayed at the top of our staircase
going to the guest rooms, for a Paris hotel like look.
Here it is in place on the landing to the second floor.
I am happy with the way it turned out with chalk.
But next time, I'll be creating something like this using
a chalk pen.
These can be found at art shops and on Amazon.
They simply write with a chalk look but without the chalk dust
and wipe clean with a damp cloth.
Love that idea.
There you have it, using stencils and filling in the design with chalk.
Did you know you can sharpen chalk with a large sharpener?
Yes, you can and it makes it easier to use on these designs.
But next time, I'm trying the chalk pen.
I'll let you know how it goes.
See you next time!
Blessings Be Yours

I love what you did. I am going to put that on my project to do list. I have never painted with the chalk paint and eager to try.
Beautiful as always.
Hope your hands are doing good. And the whole you😉

What a lovely way to use an old painting - a clever redesign. Love it!!
I adore this, Celeste! What a beautiful chalkboard! I never thought about using stencils to help me design my artwork on a chalkboard. Thank you for sharing your lovely project and idea!
Oooh, la, la! I am in love with your gorgeous chalkboard sign, Celestina! It's perfect at the top of your stairs, and oh so Frenchy-chic! Tres magnifique!! Love your idea of using the stencils to add the design. And I never knew you could sharpen chalk!! I love chalk pens, they look so neat, and you are right, no dust!!
Bonjour mon amie! Your stenciling and freehand work is perfect and I didsee some chalk pens the other day at micharls and I am going to get one. There Iis nothing like that feel of writing with a grench script on a black board! Your ideas and shares are a delight!
It's lovely!
so neat!

Gorgeous! And I love the arrangement of where you have it on display. Simply darling!
Hugs to you.

You're so creative and clever! What a perfect re-do. It does seem you would have to be oh so careful with the dusty chalk to work with the stencils. I've seen the chalk pencils; they look like fun to work with.
Your landing is very inviting; I like how you added the shutter next to your window.
Have a wonderful day. xo, Deborah
I love chalkboard art, Celeste. I have one frame in my foyer which I made last year. Took me soooo long to make it that I hesitate on changing it, but I'm so inspired by yours. It's beautiful!
Have a lovely day, friend.
xoxo

Very nice! You did a wonderful job with it. I wish I had talent for things like this! The chalk pen sounds like a great idea.
I love the chalkboard art that you did...so pretty!! Great redo of an older piece.
hugs,

Lovely ChalkBoard. How clever of you to use an old print for the backing. Sharpening Chalk is an interesting process. I suppose the "dust" could be used for making chalk paint. Creative Chalk Bliss...
Celeste, I love it! It turned out gorgeous....
Smiles~

besos
Hi Celestina, The chalkboard looks fantastic!
Love, L.J.
What a great make-over!! I have done the "real" chalk thing and agree about using the chalk pen. I also found the Sharpie poster paint pens work well and you can remove it with rubbing alcohol if you want to switch it up.
That is so cool. I never though of using chalk as art. You are amazing.
Your chalkboard is simply stunning! You are so creative and gifted! Love it! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
You.Are.Amazing! I wish I could think like this - take an old picture and create something new and fresh :) I love it, Celeste.
Hugs to you, sweet friend!
Love your chalk board, looks stunning on the landing like that. Great idea on the chalk pen too, thanks for sharing. Big hugs, ~Diane
What great inspiration. I love the chalk paint and what you did with it is absolutely wonderful. You are so talented....xo
That's beautiful Celeste!... I have never heard of a chalk pen?... will have to check Amazon... much love, xoxo Julie Marie
Celeste, I love this! What a perfect size and shape for your landing, and of course, your artistic talent is showing in the chalk writing. (Even when I stencil, it doesn't turn out that pretty). I've used the chalk pens. They take a little getting used to, but they are great. laurie
