~Welcome Friends~
A short side wall in my kitchen, was designed with a built-in hutch.
Of course you might know,
I did paint it in an ivory shade of off white and added the
wood appliques.
To the bottom, I painted the kick plate black
and added wood decking finials
and added wood decking finials
to give a free standing furniture look.
I did this to my kitchen island too.
This redesign was apart of my full kitchen upgrade last spring.
The counter top for this built in was also redesigned in an old world rustic look
using TerraCotta tiles for a Cottage Tuscan style.
using TerraCotta tiles for a Cottage Tuscan style.
I love this cabinet as it gives so much more room to the table area
without a larger cabinet or hutch in the room.
I've used the counter top for serving when we are entertaining,
as a coffee, hot chocolate or tea bar, treat center and to decorate for the seasons.
Here is a last of winter display adding a pop of red with the rooster
and the beautiful large platter.
Like I shared in my winter mantel post,
I added red throughout my home this season
which has brightened up the winter days.
Love this wire basket to hold a few treasures.
Fruit, grapes and pot of boxwood.
Easy to move when needing the top for quick changes.
Le Jardin old paper label added to an old bottle.
Red Ceramic Rooster with lots of distress.
Little boxwood with glass grapes.
And,
for another pop of red, chocolate hearts!!
I know we are all doing the healthy new year thing but this is just a little treat,
and we just had Valentine's Day~~okay!!
Do you have any built-ins? If so,
Do you like these or find them hard to work with?
I've made the best of the design already here
when we bought our home nearly 20 years ago.
I sure love the extra storage!!
See you next time.
Thank you for stopping by.

Oh, that extra storage is a blessing (and beautiful!). We don't have ANY built in's nor do we have any closets... It is all freestanding furniture so I really appreciate this space you shared today :) And the accents of red are so warm and inviting.
That's a beautiful spot in your kitchen. You sure did make it look like a piece of furniture perfectly fitting in that niche. It's very pretty. Is that a dutch door I see next to it?
I love all the little details of your kitchen. When my cousins leave, I am getting back to working on mine and I hope its as cute as yours when I get done. I think I might use the finial idea for the bottom of my cabinets and paint the kick boards black like the island, too. Those are great ideas...you are a genius! I have a laminate counter and trim to work with and plan on changing out the trim. ( One battle at a time with the old man!) He's buying me an electric nailer, but he doesn't know it yet. :) I do have a built in that is a problem, and will post it on the blog when we get to the that part in the kitchen. Mine hangs from the ceiling...and that's not always good.
Useful AND beautiful! What a treat to have such a great feature in your kitchen. I love how your transformed it into a high-end furniture look by adding the "feet". So nice to have a display area that you can utilize when entertaining too!! Your home is sooo gorgeous!
Love & blessings, Edie
Morning, Celeste! Oh, how I love your built in cabinet and I love even more what you've done to it. You have such style! The little wooden appliques look so nice and of course the way you've dressed her is so pretty! Have a great week.
Be a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
Your built in cupboard is wonderful, very stylish and welcoming. Hugs, Valerie
This furniture is amazing! You realized a beutiful and useful space in your lovely kitchen. Thanks for sharing with us another gorgeous corner of your home.
Kisses
Alessandra
I've been seeing your comment on a few blogs and I just wanted to visit and say, hi. I love what you did with your hutch, it's gorgeous. I really admire the way you styled the shelf and the space above the hutch as well... :)
I really love your built in hutch, Celestina! Your redo from spring is wonderful, love how you made it look and feel more like actual furniture by adding the feet and the wood appliques, too. While I don't have a built in, I would dearly love to have bookcases with a window seat some day in our house! Your winter vignette is lovely. Did you make that French label bottle? I am in love with it!!!!
I love that beautiful built-in...and having it in a niche is even more convenient, like you said, it doesn't take up lots of room. I didn't know you had a dutch door...I see it next to the built-in...love those too!
I love your built in cabinet. The paint job is so pretty. One can never have enough built ins in IMHO! Cheers.
I love that you added the "feet" to make it look like it was free standing. I don't have any built ins...
Nice. I have what I call a built-out, a wet bar/wine storage, that drives me crazy in my kitchen. Although I use it for entertaining - dessert bar, tableware set up for buffet - I've even placed a large board or platter over the sink and turned the water off for more counter space in entertaining, but the wine rack especially drives me crazy. I'd love to tear it out and replace with either a plate rack or cabinet, but scope creep looms (in other words, my husband would want to take the project exponentially, and it would be a complete kitchen remodel), so I just live with mine.
Rita
Your kitchen is just dreamy! I wish mine were bigger. =)
Jeanine
Celeste, I do not have any thing like that in my home. It's beautiful. I am so impressed with how you added features to make it look free-standing. By the way, I also love your little red chicken. Joyous Wishes, Linda
i think built-ins are awesome! none here, though. i like your rooster.
i love built-ins, and the storage they gave:) yours makes a pretty addition to your kitchen, celeste!
Hi Celeste,
it looks so wonderful and homely in your kitchen! Really lovely!
Have a wonderful and blessed new week,
Love and hugs
Claudia
Celeste,
Your efforts paid off beautifully. Providing beauty,
practical storage and display. I always enjoy looking at your photos to see how you accessorize. Always done tastefully. We are going to do a mini revamp in our kitchen this Spring... Really getting excited, a black with white veins soapstone will become our new peninsula enlarged with a waterfall side. We're going slab shopping. I'm breaking up the Luna pearl granite countertops for more interest and contast. Oh Celeste I'm so excited!
I love when I go to someone's home and they have foil wrapped chocolates in a bowl. Such a sweet touch... Mine get eaten quickly since John is a chocolate lover!
Sending love,
Vera
Very pretty Celeste. I love the pops of red...and yay for Valentine candy! ")
Hugs to you, my friend.
Hi Celestina. I love all your pops of red. Red is a color that is always great fun. Your displays are so charming on your built-in and I really like how you added the feet. In an old house you would think there would be a lot of builtins but I have nary a one. I do have room for a number of cupboards and hutches so that is nice, but it still doesn't hold all my stuff!..Happy Monday..Judy
Gorgeous piece Celeste. Don't you just love what appliques can do to a piece?? I swear by them. Beautiful vignette, that bottle is a keeper
Cindy
Good evening dearest Celeste! I love your built-in! We too have one that is as old as the house, 1941. It's our tea station and I love it. It has leaded windows and it's just the right size for our tea pots. Looking good here! Hugs, Anita
Love the built in and great job on transforming it into a showpiece!...I love that you added the tiles to the top...I do not have any built ins in the kitchen but have bookcases in the great room and media room...does that count? :)
Celeste, I love your built-in! You did a fantastic job adding interest with the appliques! I also love the idea of painting the kick plate black and adding feet to give your built-in a furniture look! Of course, you have styled this beautifully! The rooster is so cute and the wire basket is a great decorative piece. I have built-ins, but they're full of china and a tv (per hubby's request).
How nice to have a whole extra cupboard out of the way in the kitchen. Love the tile on the counter! I barely have room in my kitchen for a garbage pail!
Extra storage is always a welcome blessing! It sure makes for a beautiful addition in your kitchen.
Beautiful built-in, Celeste. We don't have any in our current temporary house, but we left a couple behind in our last home, actually built by my husband. I wanted to pull them off the wall when we left. :( So well-made.
Thank you for the anniversary and Valentine's wishes. I hope you enjoyed it too, including the chocolate. ;)
xoxo
Wonderful built in - so much extra storage and counter space. Love what you did with it making it look like a piece of furniture.
Judy
What a wonderful build-in. I use to have one in another home we owned. I don't have one now. I really like them though and wish I did.
I always love extra storage! And you've made this built in extra pretty Celestina. We had a built in bookcase in the living room... I wasn't a fan and we removed it. It was really hard to work with. I always had it hidden by furnitire. I like yours much better. Have a good week!
Your built-in looks so lovely. I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's day.
Celestina, You did make it look like a lovely piece of furniture. If you hadn't told me, I would have thought it was a furniture piece.
I like the built in area and how you've designed it to be like a piece of furniture. I have a set of cupboards at the end of my little galley kitchen with glass doors that I had designed in when we remodeled in '96. My goal was so that it would appear a bit like a hutch- that's as close as I come to this idea!
No built ins here, I just love what you did with it and the decorating above and around it is just lovely too, love your basket, I have one that is wire and wood slates that I keep on my table center with napkins, salt & pepper and such and it is nice and easy to move everything off the table at once when I want it cleared. Beautiful!
Love the hutch! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Hello Celestina! I love your blog ... everything here is a charm! Congratulations! Hugs ... Rosemary!
dear Celestina Marie,
Love the hutch and so nice that it was built in and must be so very handy.
Hope you have a happy day
Sending love and hugs
Carolyn
It's true that we can never have enough storage especially in the kitchen! You have certainly made the built in look more like a piece of furniture. I enjoyed reading your previous post too with all the pretty hearts around your home.
Your built-in is lovely, dear Celeste! I don't have anything like that in my home, but I am sure it's nice and convenient :)
Thank you for sharing at ROI, sweet friend. Love and hugs to you!
Love the built in hutch! Our first home was a 1950's house and I fell in love with the dining room because it had a built in corner cabinet with shelves. So many neat details in older homes. We spent time fixing it up and I was sad when we moved. As you know I've moved a lot but that little house still holds a big place in my heart and the work we put into it. Thanks for sharing yours and the beautiful accessories.
Many blessings,
Jill
The hutch looks great with all your pretty decor. I love the added wood appliques and bun feet! What a great built-in storage piece to have. Thank you for sharing it at What We Accomplished Wednesdays. Have a great weekend!
Blessings,Deborah
I love this area of your kitchen, Celeste! It really looks like a hutch was tucked right into place here. The "feet" you added really help give it a furniture look. I've been wanting to do something similar to our kitchen base cabinets (and recently was thinking of doing it in the bathroom, too). Such a great spot to do something like a coffee or hot coco bar, too.
I love your built in. We took some of our old kitchen cabinets and moved them down into the basement into a built in area. I love having the extra storage. Hope to get them painted white when the weather warms up.
~Cindy
I missed this post. I wish I did have a built in!! I love yours!
Carol
Love it Celeste!... and I also love all of the red you are adding in once again, so pretty... and chocolate hearts!... xoxo... Julie Marie
Looks great. You always do such beautiful work on your projects. I have no built-ins.
Also love the fence too.
