Shimmering Snow

Happy February!

Shimmering Snow
is the lacy crocheted throw I've been working on recently and
I am happy to say it's done and on the shelf
 HERE.
Well it was on the shelf~~ It is now off to a new home in the Midwest.
I hope they enjoy this and right in time for the heavy snow blanketing the Midwest to the east coast.
Stay safe everyone!!

To the edge, I added a ruffled shell stitch.
This design has become my signature creation
and I have lost count at just how many I've worked on
over the years.

The design is considered a vintage stitch and was first popular in the late 60's to mid 70's.

This throw has a front and back design and done with a large knitting needle and medium size crochet hook.

Measures 40" by 60"

Crocheted with 100 percent acrylic yarn made in Turkey.
It's soft and cozy and shimmers like fresh fallen snow with the thin silver thread
running through the yarn.

This was a fun piece to work.
Next I plan to begin a soft light mint green baby or small springtime lap throw.

I love to stitch in the evenings.
It gives me time to unwind from a day of painting and I find it so relaxing.

Having an on going lap project is something I've done since I was a little girl.
Watching my mom and grandmother inspired me to learn.

While I will never be able to crochet or knit like my grandmother or mom,
It sure is fun to keep trying.

Do you have a winter lap project you are working on?

If so~
Hands to work
Hearts to God!

Southern DayDreams be yours.

Absolutely beautiful, Celeste. That is a such a beautiful stitch. When I first viewed it I thought it was done on a loom.

At the present time I am working on a blue baby afghan for a daughter of a friend from years ago. She is having her first child and I wanted to do something special for her.

This is gorgeous! You're right, it looks like "shimmering snow"! What a treasure for the new owner; a true labor of love. I don't know how to crochet, but would love to learn how. I usually have a piece of needlepoint going. I am trying to finish pieces my Mother began 25 years ago and never had the chance to complete. Recently, I have finished two bell pulls and just love them. Have a blessed week, Celeste!

That's really pretty. The edge on it really add to it! I'm so glad we didn't get any of that storm. It stayed about 50 miles south of us (yay!).

Lovely, so lovely my friend! And this feels so warm right now as I just came in from the cold to my school office. I could use one these right now and a cup of tea!!!!

That is really pretty. My grandmother was the knitter of the family and could make anything she had a pattern for. Mom taught me to crochet and embroider. I need to find something to work on...if my hands will hold up on me.
Thank you for all your comments and prayers on my weekend posts.

Hi Celestina
what a gorgeous throw! I love the lacy pattern and shell edging. It will be well loved in its new home:) I wish that I'd learned how to crochet. My mom always wanted to teach me, but of course when I was young I just wasn't interested!

That turned out beautifully. How lucky for the recipient. I remember my grandmother teaching me to crochet but it's long forgotten. No lap projects for me. :)

Isn't that the broomstick stitch? I think I will be trying that stitch for a future throw.

Wonderful name for a wonderful throw.

Shimmering Snow is very apropo for this beautiful Broomstick lap throw. I made lots of throws and pillows with this technique back in the day. I don't quite remember how to begin now though. I have a tiny little stitchery I am working on. I usually crochet or knit in the colder weather. Beautiful work dear...

Good morning Celeste!

Your newest creation is gorgeous! Love the yarn you chose for it. I learned the shell stitch from my mom & grandma also. I may have to dig out my crochet hooks to made throws for my grands. You're such an inspiration for me!! And the person in the midwest that purchased your throw REALLY can use it!! We're in a deep freeze here.

Lots of love & hugs, Edie

That is so pretty, Celeste! Crocheting and knitting are not creative tasks I have taken up. My Mom has knitted and crocheted and I'm sure she tried to teach me years ago, but I just never had the patience to sit and do it.

No wonder I love this throw so much, Celestina - I grew up in the 60's and 70's. The stitch looks so familiar to me. It is such a special and pretty blanket, and the sparkly silver adds to the prettiness. You truly did a great job on it. Whoever gets this is a lucky girl.

Gorgeous! I love the sparkly silver running through it. The recipient will love cuddling up with this beauty. You have done lovely work.
I most often read in the evenings, but if we watch a movie I try and get out my handwork. I have to be careful, though; sometimes I can't concentrate on both!
Hope you're having a good week dear blogging friend! xo

I love that shell stitch it is so pretty! I have been crocheting little red hearts (go figure)
I also find doing some hand work does settle my mind and heart!
