Adding One More Thing

Hi Friends.

When I shared my dining room changes
I told you I was working on one last thing to finish the look.

One last thing that would bring out the aqua of the curtains
and a little accent to complete the room.

Now look over to the left.
See the vintage white chair?

I know, I should remember to take the before pic.
I always forget that when painting!!
One day I'll learn I suppose~~

Anyway,
I also shared with you this seat cushion.

Love the colors and this was my inspiration for the room for that white chair.

However~~
When I shared that post, many of you thought I made the curtains and chair pad.

Well I can't take credit for them as I found these at World Market.
But I have to say, if not for the discount, coupon and the fabric I was really looking for,
I would not have purchased these.

First off, they are not sewn right.
The side hems are not sewn down to the lining
and so they will not hang right at the bottoms and each side end.

I guess the manufacture wanted to take a short cut on the sewing.

Anyway to correct the problem.
I went to the local fishing store and purchased fishing line weights.
These are about 4 oz.each and I added 12 for 6 panels.

Next I placed one on each side of a panel
to the hemline.

These could be sewn in place using the circles for the fishing line
but I just simply tucked them in the hem.
You don't see them in the hem and the weight helps them hang correctly.

Now they hang much better
and the weights give the ends a nice straight appearance when closed or open.

Okay, moving on to the reason for this post.

Here is the~
One More Thing.

The white chair got a coat of
Chalk paint, stenciled numbers and distress.

I used the chalk paint named Escape by
Americana Decor.
It's like a brighter aqua.
Somewhat bright for me, but after a little sanding it toned down.

The color was perfect with the aqua in the curtains.
I lightly sanded the edges adding distress
and gave the entire chair a coat of soft satin varnish
and buffed with a soft waxing brush.

Daytime

Just that pop of color with the black and blue
brings out the accent color I've used throughout the room.

To see the complete change up
you can visit that post HERE.

Evening

Another "to do"
marked off the spring list!!

What would I do without my lists?
Do you make a "to do" list with the seasons?

Thank you for stopping by.

Next time I'll share another paint project!

Have a wonderful day and see you again soon.

XO

Looks great! Adding weights really does help. I had to do the same thing to the curtains I bought from Country Curtains..they were a little wompyjawed too. :)

Celeste,
It is a shame we oftentimes as consumers find ourselves remaking to correct manufacturer's short cuts, Short cuts to save time and money for the net of bigger profit,
Your Aqua chair adds a pop of accent color from the drapes so sweetly, You rock with your talents!
Congrats on accomplishing all your to do Spring list. Ours grew in scope and turned into a basement and garage plus powder room creation, Yikes Kitchen and 3 more rooms. Plus to think I had completed my Spring cleaning!!!!

Vera

Morning, I just noticed your scroll design over each window. I loved it!
But the chair was really cute and the color just is perfect for the room. I think it was great you used curtain weights to help pull down those corners. I want to make some new curtains for my living room soon to add a spring feel! You have an artist's heart and touch...
All things lovely

Just gorgeous, Celestina! Your home has a warm touch to it with your beauty all around.
The Bahadur turned out quite pretty and so spring. I do not have a list of changes for the seasons but I do change out certain decor items.
Your curtains are just beautiful with your dining set, and what a great idea using the fishing weight.
When I was a young girl I would help my grandmother in her sewing room while she made draperies. My job was to put the weights in, this brought back memories. :-)

Thank you for sharing the beauty of your home with us. You are always an inspiration.

Enjoy your day!
Debbie

Celeste, You are so creative and talented. I love the chair. I finally finished rescue of a broken child's chair. I'm very happy about completing it. I'm not sure what my painting style would be, perhaps whimsical, or folk. Here is the post - http://lmarandomcreativity.blogspot.com/2015/04/rescue-and-revive.html
I do not have your talent for painting the beautiful flowers. Thanks for always inspiring. Joyous Wishes, Linda

Hi Celeste!

Your dining room is fit for a queen! All of your changes and touches are perfect. The chair is the pop of color that really finishes it off! Your decorating never ceases to amaze me. I loved your solution for the drapes. It's a trick my Mom used to use with all her drapes. Great memories and a fabulous reminder of that wise solution.

I always use lists. I think my lists have lists sometimes. I've been on a spring cleaning binge and have totally revamped my studio with better storage for all my fabrics and photos. I feel a ton lighter knowing things are in better order!

Love, hugs, and blessings, Edie & Marie

That is such a great tip about the fishing weight, Celestina! Your curtains are just so pretty, I love the pattern and the colors. But I do know just what you mean about manufacturers taking short cuts. Seems like things just aren't always made "like they used to be"! And your chair is perfect for adding a fun pop of color to your pretty dining room! Love the numbers too, you always have such great ideas!!

I am in love with so many things here...but those polka dotted, blingy little lamp shades are my very favorite thing!
I have used lead sinkers before, too. They really work. Now I have cats that hang on them.

Say aqua and I'm there. Love what you've done here, Celeste. I've been adding a few painted pieces to our home (which is mostly neutral). Cottage style mixes different finishes, and that can get tricky at times, but a little touch of color always brightens a room.
Have fun playing house, friend. Always my favorite.

The room and the blue chair came out really pretty. I have found curtains there, and I've been pleased, because some got to places have become ridiculously these days. My mom use to put fishing weights at the bottom of drapes, and I totally forgot that trick. I would not know where to buy them today if I needed them.
