On a guestroom bench!
I found this little bench at a yard sale.
It was being sold by a grandmother who said,
her grand daughter made it for her in shop class.
She was selling it????
Well, I don't have any grands yet, but this broke my heart
and it had to come home with me.
Oh course it was not painted like you see here at first.
You know I 'm famous for not taking before pics,
but in it's beginning it was raw wood and ready to stain or paint.
That yard sale was some time ago and I have loved this piece in many ways and makeovers
ever since.
This is the latest painted for a little seat placed at the end of the bed in our guestroom.
A little spot to sit, place a piece of luggage, put on your shoes and more.
I like that the little student made a hand lift in the seat for ease of moving.
And she added a shelf on the bottom where I placed this basket for little essentials
I like to add when guests visit.
Perfect at the end of the bed painted in chalk paint of a light ivory on the bottom and light grey
for the seat top.
The colors pick up the quilt colors perfectly.
The stencil is a vintage style Hotel address in France.
In a room with shades of soft grey, blue, browns and ivory, it fits right in.
I want folks to feel at home sweet home, like this pillow says,
hand created by my mother so many years ago.
A few books to curl up with under a little throw I crocheted last year.
Little goodies tucked in small places.
An angel watching over guests in their stay.
A room to feel like a cottage stay, I hope!
Scented with flowers and dreams.
A perfect little seat in this small room
with a BIG welcome!
Thanks to the little student taking shop class,
I have this little seat to enjoy in our guestroom.
I want her to know, her work has not gone unloved.

Perhaps the mother having the garage sale, was selling that bench, because she really needed the money (I can relate)...not that she didn't want the bench (that would be heart-breaking) her daughter made for her.

How sad that a Grandmother felt she didn't care about her beautiful gift. I have a mug rack which my eldest granddaughter painted for me when she was about 6, it was done with love especially for her Nana, and to this day still takes pride of place in my kitchen. She's now 14 and was surprised to see that when we did our recent update in the kitchen that her mug rack came back in with the other pieces, but I could see that she loved the fact that I still appreciated the love behind the gift. Anyway, sorry for the waffle, and I'm glad that you show that little stool the love it deserves.

A precious build by a young student to be purchased by you and given a beautiful style to be loved and used in your home. Being blessed with Grands I can't imagine such a useful gift made in love being sold at a garage sale. It brings sadness to me. Thanks Celeste for showing it love and bringing it home.

Such a sweet bench....I could never let something like that go....I cannot even part with the tiniest note from my granddaughter....I am so happy that you rescued it and giving it a nice home and giving it lots of love as you did...beautiful room that I am sure your guests love to stay in!!
What a sweet bench, Celestina! I love your paint and stencil transformation, it looks perfect at the foot of your guest bed. It makes me sad to know the grandma didn't want to keep it. Dearest Celeste, your find is SUPER! And your paint job really makes this an extra perfect find. I found a little white bench just like this a few weeks ago, and I love it. It has the original white chippy paint, so I didn't need to paint it, but it looks so good as is coupled with other more elegant pieces.

Celeste, you turned this bench into a treasure! You have added just the right accents to your basket for your guests! What a lovely inviting space to rest! I bought a wedding dress, from 1900, that a lady was selling. She was also selling her daughter's wedding dress from 1942. It made me so sad! I couldn't buy both, but do cherish the one I bought. I have it in my guest room too. I'm thrilled our items have new homes where they are loved! Hope you're having a wonderful week!

How beautiful this room is! I could crawl in that bed and zonk out I know. I cannot imagine that lady selling such a precious and priceless gift. So glad that you are the new owner and will care for it. You did a beautiful job on refinishing it and it's sitting in a perfect place! Love the pillow your mom made as well as the afghan you made.
