Herbs on the Potting Bench

Hi Friends,
Happy Weekend!

I love cooking with fresh herbs
and
planting my own placed on the potting bench to gather when needed.

Here are a few this season.

Passing through this arch filled with the Trumpet vine~

We come to my Garden Potting Bench.

This is the one I've shared in the past, built by my son for me one Christmas.

Fresh basil always reminds me of my grandmother's kitchen.
The scent just takes me back to such a special time.

Rosemary so fragrant and makes chicken taste divine.

Lavender a must in my garden.

Parsley, perfect for many dishes and so pretty placed in a sprig with a meal.

So ready for a dish a fresh strawberries. See the buds?
I created these herb markers last year and should make one for strawberries.

Spearmint growing big.
I love adding a leaf or two  to a tall glass of iced tea on a hot summer day.

Now this plant is not on the bench, but it's called,
Scented Geranium.

It doesn't make a flower, but has the scent of citronella.
Having it near outdoor dining and the sitting area
helps with mosquitoes.

It was new to me plant this season and the garden guy told me
if you take a leaf and rub it lightly on your skin it will repeal mosquitoes.
I'll let you know how well it works.

It sure makes a beautiful bush in my Flower Market Bucket.

Have you seen this pretty Scented Geranium in your garden center?

Have a nice weekend and see you soon.

Blessings,
Celestina Marie

How nice, Celestina Marie! I have not seen the citronella-scented geranium, but I haven't sought it out either. I've only grown a full kitchen herb garden a couple years, but love the fragrances and freshness. I do have several lavender plants and they keep me plenty busy! Have a great weekend.

Oh my friend, so do I; I have to have fresh basil in my summer recipes. Other favorites are thyme, oregano and sage for my French cooking! After our vacation I'm starting my little potted herb garden on our marble table. It's going to be lovely! Happy weekend, Anita

Happy Memorial Day!! Love your herbs and the scented geranium {haven't seen it before}. I used to plant lots of herbs and tomatoes, but I don't think I'll be doing that this year. I plan to fill in where I had the herbs and tomatoes last year, with more perennials {a couple special hydrangeas if I can find them today - or who knows). I want my garden wall full of flowers...and making a beautiful wall! It's wonderful when the pups and I sit on our swing, have something to eat - the other established plants are about 3 feet tall and the wall they are planted in is about 34" tall. I have a beautiful flowering 6 foot tall privacy hedge! Love it!

Hugs,
Jan ♥

Oh, how lovely your potting bench is, Celestina! And you have arranged your pretty pot plants so artistically! I too love using fresh herbs in my cooking and just a little handful makes a dish extra special and tasty, doesn't it...? My favourite culinary herb is basil and I love that it is so simple to grow! We have different scented geraniums in our garden and I know that you can also use them to flavour sugar and other things...I am looking at a delightful recipe just now for almond and lemon scented geranium biscuits and hmmm...it looks very delicious! The uses of herbs are truly endless!
Enjoy your herb gardening and cooking, Celestina and have a blessed weekend further!
Much love,
Kelly-Anne

Celeste,
Your tiered shelf idea is pretty. Your son is very talented and loving. I too love herbs and use fresh in all meals growing them just makes perfect sense. This year I'm planting 3 types of Basil, one being Thai. Love how it looks (purple and green, pointy leaves) and the taste defines not only Asian dishes but many others.
Hey anything that repells those pesty blood suckers is worth a try!
Your post is fill with beauty today. Have a fun holiday weekend.
Xoxo,
Vera

Wow, your herbs are just so lovely! and your herb potting bench is gorgeous. I love having herbs close enough to the house to use in everyday cooking. We have a box on our back deck with herbs. This year we got Stevia for the first time and have used it in tea already. Have a great holiday weekend

Celeste, As I looked at each photo and read the names I could imagine the fragrances. We have several herbs planted to use in cooking also. The scented Geranium sounds like a great idea. Your potting bench is wonderful and all your additions to the bench are beautiful. Take time to smell the roses and herbs. Joyous Wishes, Linda

Good morning Celeste,
I love herbs too and I love cooking with fresh herbs as well. I started my own basil and oregano plants with a leftover sprig of each that I had purchased in the grocery store. I stuck it in some water, it rooted pretty quickly so I planted it! Worked very well!

Your potting bench is pretty and I love (of course) how you decorate! Always spot on!

Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend!
Hugs,
Linda

Hi Celeste!

There's something so special about herbs in the garden and patio! Your's look so fresh and ready to add to the dish of the day. The citronella geranium is a great idea to help with repelling mosquitoes. I just heard recently that putting a bundle of sage on a fire in a fire pit also helps with that problem at night when we want that little evening flame outdoors. It looks like a dried bundle of sage tied with criss-crossed string.

Have a great holiday weekend! Love & hugs, Edie

I have my fresh herbs potted as well! I have heard that mosquitoes do not like the scent of rosemary and lavender too!

I love cooking with fresh herbs! We don't have to deal with mosquitoes where we live, you've reminded me to be thankful for that! Hugs to you.

Happy Memorial Day weekend. I love your herbs and markers. Basil has such a wonderful scent. John has grown the citronella plant. He would place a sprig on his straw hat to keep the bugs away! It worked pretty well, especially if replaced with fresh often. Have a safe weekend.

How lovely, Celeste! I'll bet it is wonderful to just step out your back door and snip off something to use in that night's dinner recipe.

Love the potting bench with all your great herbs. I am having fresh tomatoes with basil and cheese to night.
Don't you just love the scented geraniums - I have a lemon and chocolate one - just love them. We are so fortunate that we do not have mosquito's here in So CA.
Everything looks wonderful dear friend.

Love your potted herbs and the bench! You should put the rosemary in the ground...it will get HUGE, and will overwinter if covered. It survives very well in Texas in the heat, and you will have a beautiful, fragrant bush!

I really need to get some herbs in pots. I'd love to have some I could clip and use in dishes. I probably need to get about 50 of those Scented Geraniums! Mosquitoes will carry you away here in Arkansas.

I can almost smell all of your wonderful herbs from here, Celestina! I just love your potting bench, and all of the fun treasures you've added, along with your plants. I used to have lots of scented geraniums, they smell so wonderful. And basil is one of my very favorite herbs, so is rosemary! I still need to get mine! Lucky you to have such a long growing season!
