Painting all types of flowers is a real passion for me.
This week I was inspired by my garden geraniums to paint a canvas of blooms.
Mine are mostly pink, but I have a few red and I just need my painting to be done in red.
You know artists are like that,
we can make changes by the stroke of a brush!
So out with my 12x12 inch canvas, I base coated the background a light ivory.
That will change with highlights and shading as the painting goes along.
In the end, I have red geraniums ready to frame.
Layering color~
Adding shading~
Ageing with a dry brush~
Highlighting the petals and giving a brushing of blue for the background~
Going outdoors~
Bringing the outdoors inside~
Ready to frame or make prints for my shop.
Do you plant geraniums?
Here in Texas they do very well and tolerate the heat.
The heat we need right now to dry up the ground from all the record rain over the last month.
Flooded homes, roads, parks, lakes and so on have caused major destruction for many here in Texas.
Prayers go out to my neighbors that have suffered loss of homes and loved ones.
The good news is, we are predicted a dryer June.
See you soon~
Be Blessed

Red geraniums are my very favorite! They are just happy plants. You are so talented!
I do plant red geraniums as summer annuals, Celestina Marie, and I really love your painting. Prayers for all in TX, including several of my family. Though only slightly inconvenienced, many of their friends were impacted much greater.
Ooh I love this picture! I plant geraniums, sometimes red, but not always. They are a reliable plant aren't they! I have been stunned to see the flooding in Texas. Prayers for all those affected by it- so many tragedies occured- very sad. Glad to know June should be better.
Your geraniums are just gorgeous, Celestina! All of the detailing, colors and shading you've added make them just pop off the canvas! I can never get over your talent, I wish that I had just a fraction of your painting skills:) Geraniums have always been a favorite of mine to grow, they are so cheery and bloom nearly non stop. What a shame all of the devastation from the rains in Texas. I will be saying prayers, too. Hugs to you, my friend.
Beautiful painting Celeste!
I planted white geraniums in my French pots on our front steps. This year they are doing well for me
Your painting is gorgeous. Very realistic they pop out
I feel for all dealing with the rains and flooding. Just terrible
Cindy
I love geraniums in both red and pink too and have them in my yard! You painting is just beautiful! Have a nice day!

Gorgeous! Red is my favorite! :)
Gorgeous painting (I want it!!!!)! :) I was watching the Texas flood coverage on the Weather Channel, how heartbreaking. Prayers to the people of The Lone Star State!

so very happy to see sun yesterday! remind me of that in about a month or two. :)
lovely painting! i remember my mother's geraniums...
Such a gorgeous painting, Celeste. I adore geraniums and would love to have a big pot on the front porch. Sadly, I have terrible success with them.
Such a beautiful painting, Celeste! You are such a talented artist.
Your paintings are just gorgeous!! Love the way you capture so much beauty on canvas.

Beautiful! Your posts always brighten my day :)
Beautiful picture - can't wait to see them in your shop!
I love red geraniums! I have some planted in urns by my front door. Your painting captures them beautifully!
Hello again Celestina, thanks so much for linking up to our first Cooking & Crafting with J & J party! I really love your painting of the geraniums and it just screams summer!
Love the painting and was happy to hear that you are ok. I keep seeing videos online of horses and cattle being rescued, homes being swept away. Prayers for those in the path.
Flowers are one thing I never painted, always wanted to, just not sure how and its one of those things I keep putting off for later...when I have more time.
Did you take a class? I have never taken a class, just picked up a brush and went to it. Crazy, I know.
I do not do geraniums...don't really like then that much and everyone else does them. But- one year I found a purple one...oh, it was so pretty and I loved that one. Haven't been able to find another like it since.
I am more into waxed begonias...pink with red leaves...oh, I could plant trays and trays of them along the borders.
Hope y'all dry up soon and you can send some rain this way. We are 11" or so below average here. ;)
Hi Celestina :)
That painting turned out lovely. Red is a favorite of mine. I don't have any geraniums, but I'm thinking of getting some for my back porch pots, since they love the heat.
I'm glad to hear that you and yours are okay after the flooding in Texas. Scary stuff!
Thank you for taking us on your walk in the last post. It was beautiful :)
xo,

Beautiful painting. Love red geraniums!

YOU are so, so good, Celeste. To paint each petal requires so much patience, something I just don't have for painting or even illustration. Marvelous colors and feel. I hope you had a great weekend! Anita
You are a great and very talented artist. Your geraniums are stunning. I planted geraniums last week, but not red...pink!
Hugs

Living here in Dangerously Drought Dry California I am praying for Texas rain to come here while you safely dry out from horrendous flooding. Prayers for everyone. Love your painting. I have 12" x 12" canvases, paints, brushes and yet nothing gets painted by my non-artistic hands. We also don't grow gerraniums here as they freeze and die. Blessings Dear...
You, Celeste, are an artist! Gorgeous painting! I have many friends in Texas whom I have been communicating with often over the past month. Minor damage but nothing major personally! My bestie is friends with the McComb families and have felt their loss tremendously! So very sad! Sending prayers to all Texans! Blessings to you! Cindy
Oh, your geraniums are truly beautiful Celestina...you are such a gifted artist, and the flowers you paint are just amazing! I am sure your home must be filled with the loveliness you create with your brush!
I love geraniums - they are wonderful in the garden, and they can even be used in baking:). So glad yours are growing well!
Have a fabulous June, Celestina!
Here in South Africa it has been raining since Sunday afternoon - the rain has been much needed, so we are very glad!
Hugs and love,
Kelly-Anne
We have been praying for all of you in Texas and Oklahoma---we know you pray for us during times of tornadoes and snowstorms. It works both ways and we are all blessed in our kinship.
Your painting is gorgeous---you have an amazing talent! I planted geraniums, red in fact, in front of my house this past week. Serendipity? :)

LOVELY PAINTING! ONE OF THESE DAYS I WOULD LIKE TO TRY WATERCOLOR PAINTING!
those are so lovely! Yes, I plant lots of geraniums every year...they are very hardy and so well in our climate too! This year I have red. Last year it was pink!
So beautiful!!!....Love geraniums...they are great to plant here as the deer leave them alone!!
So pretty! You definitely have the artistic touch. =)
Jeanine
I love your painting and it's so interesting to hear about some of the steps you take...especially the aging. What a difference that makes. I have a neighbor that has big pots of them on her front porch. Beautiful! Hugs Diane
I just love geraniums. There is nothing sweeter than a pot of red geraniums on the kitchen table in the sunshine.
I love geraniums ,and have a lot here, but only inside. They bloom almost all around the year, and I have alwayes been loving this oldfashioned flower.
Your painting is stunning, Celestina Marie, you know just how to make everything live in your paintings !
I send you big hugs, from Dorthe
Hi Celestina! Oh my, what stunning work you do! I love red geraniums and these you have created are so very lovely! I hope you are having a good Tuesday :)
That is so pretty, Celeste! I favor pink myself, although I used to plant red out in the front of our house to go with the red and white color scheme I would do there {back in NY}. This year I bought a dark purple that I never saw before. I paired it with some purple/chartreus coleus and a chartreuse-y colored licorice plant. Can't wait to see that urn filled out!
Beautiful painting Celeste! I love and have always wanted to learn to paint flowers and in particular geraniums! My mother is an artist and I did not get graced with that gene! You are a magnificent artist, what a gift!
I hope you are painting more now! If I could paint, would not be doing anything else!
Hugs,
Nancy
Hi Celeste,
We have Geraniums in our back yard. Pinks, whites, and red ones. I like pressing them and putting them in pot-pourri as some do have a nice scent.
I like the painting too, it captures the spirit of Geraniums well.
Thank you for leaving a comment on my blog and following. I'm following yours as well.
-Shiralee.
Wonderful.
Like you mentioned, you have brought the outdoors indoor.
Lovely painting ! I love flowers in any shape or colour...
Thanks for your kind visit.
Have a creative day !
Anna
It is breathtaking. I love it! Hugs and blessings, Cindy
Dear Christina!
How excited I was to read your note from Etsy! I missed visiting with wonderful friends such as yourself and thought of you and your gorgeous work often! I am so happy to see you are still creating such lovely pieces as these Geraniums (one of my personal favorites). This past 18 months was very chaotic for me and I had to do a lot of soul searching and re-evaluation of the direction my life was going and God willing I am on a good path now and will stay strong and remain the captain of my little ship in the future.
Thank you so much for remembering me and taking the time to welcome me back, it means a lot to me! Have a super day Christina!

Beautiful! This is just a stunning picture. I so admire your work. I do love geraniums, as they are very hardy and forgiving to non-gardeners such as me. I have pink and white this year.
Glad to hear you were not affected by any of that severe flooding.
I just love red geraniums but just have no where to put them where they can thrive. I would settle for a beautiful picture of them though, beautifully hand painted, like yours. It is too sweet!
Lovely!
Your talent never ceases to amaze me, dear Celeste. Your painted geraniums are stunning! I have some red geraniums on my front porch....now when I look at them I will think of you :)
Thanks for sharing with Roses of Inspiration. I love having you at the party. Hugs!
Wow! Absolutely beautiful!! I just love Geraniums.
{And Texas Longhorns -- I liked the pic of them from the other post}
Blessings~
Gorgeous and definitely keeping Texas in my prayers!
Blessings,
Jill
Such a beautiful painting Celeste. I am happy to hear your weather will be better in June, my heart breaks for all the people there in Texas still suffering from the terrible weather. Hugs, ~Diane
Love, love those red geraniums! They are so pretty, my talented friend! Wish I could do that!
xo
Linda
Oh my you did a wonderful job on painting these flowers, lovely detail, Beautiful!!! Isn't it amazing how you can be in a drought at one moment and then have way too much rain, hoping California can get some of this extra rain. My thoughts and prayers have gone out to all those affected by the flooding and Tornadoes .
You are very talented, great painting. Thats a hard flower to paint.
Funny I have Renee's first painting and it was of Geraniums too.
Pretty cold this AM June 4 th in Maine,40 degrees,
sure hope it warms up by 10 AM. The weather is nuts.
Keep painting. yvonne
But, but they look so real. Amazing job!!
This painting really shows how skilful you really are Celeste -
it is breathtaking!
You're so gifted, my friend. Beautiful.
Prayers out to all affected by the rain.
xoxo
Celestina,
This painting is soooo pretty with the red geraniums. There's something about red flowers that get to me every time. You did a wonderful job on this, it really looks nice.
love, ~Sheri
Wow, this geranium painting is outstanding! I don't plant them yet but now consider if I find them in Bangkok since I have a window sill empty. Love to see more of your paintings:) Cheers, Pingxo
