Outdoor Living

One of the most peaceful and enjoyable times
for myself and family
are spent outdoors.

Of course when the temps are not 100 degrees plus.
Here in Texas we are in the triple digits heat index and it is
HOT,HOT, HOT!

But that did not stop me from doing a little sprucing up for the back patio.
I call this the outdoor living room.
When the temps cooperate, we spend a lot of time here
enjoying the garden and being together with family and friends.
Ready to sit back and enjoy a cold drink~

Read a good design book~
Or try and stay cool under the fan my guy added.
Boy does this help move the air when it's a scorcher!

This season I added some pretty pillows for the sofa found at Lowe's end of the season sale.

To the  side chair, I just turned a flag pillow around to the red side.
I love to add a throw.
It's not needed now, but the decorator in me has to have it.
You get that, right??

This old wood burner has moved around with us from house to house
through the years in our job transfers.
The movers were never happy with me.
It weighs a ton!!
And twice, came out of the basement.

We added a shelf above to display a few accents that I change up seasonally.
The garden word block was a flea market find.

This lantern holds a faux timer candle that comes on each evening at the same time each day.
I love these timer candles and use them all around my home.

The wire basket was a two for one sale from Michael's late in the spring.
I popped in three fern like faux pots.
In the past I always had real plants here, but  from watering and dampness,
I'd have to repaint each year.
Finally (I got smart)  decided a faux grouping works better
and they stay nice and pretty in the heat.
The 2 outdoor floor lamps got an upgrade too
by wrapping the shades in burlap ribbon.
It makes a soft night time glow and easy to change out if needed.

On each side of the window I added these battery operated sconces.
They turn on and off from a little switch at the bottom.

My Golden always stands close by to greet us.
This garden dog was a gift from my guy last year.
We raised 4 Golden Retrievers and this precious statue represents them all.
The table near by is ready for outdoor dinners.
To the table top, I added 2 left over floor tiles from my kitchen redo.
It helps pull the look together with the stained patio floor.

So that's it for the outdoor living room.
Sorry for the sunny glare in the window.

The Fleur De Lis box under the coffee table
is my dad's old tool box.
It's ready to hold books and magazines sunscreen and more.
He had painted it blue ~ and the distress is the real deal from years of use.
I left it just like it was except that I added a little stencil to the sides and the phrase.
Dad would understand me doing that.

Just a few subtle changes with decor and accents bring a new look.
I'll be back next time to share my outdoor stone and shell beach.

Till then, you can find me here when I'm not creating.

Enjoy the last days of July!

Stay cool and have a nice weekend!

xo

Also, just want to thank everyone for your kind comments on my guys

Hello dear Celestina Marie... What a lovely outdoor you have created for yourselves...I am sure it must be so pleasant (when it isn't too hot, of course!) to sit out there...
And how cute your garden goldie is! I have always wanted a golden retriever...and you've raised four! :)
Happy weekend to you and lots of love!

I LOVE IT ALL, but that tool box.....Oh if only I had kept the numerous wooden tool boxes my father had from the 30s....you did an outstanding job of painting it my friend! And like you, we have been enjoying our patio this summer. Ruben comes home from work and we sit out and read poetry, discuss ideas, then eat. The squirrels entertain us just on the other side of our screen. The other day, it rained squirrel. Let me explain.

We had gone inside, but left the French doors open onto the patio. We're sitting there when suddenly, we heard a KERBLUNK and saw a "thing" fall from the sky. It was a squirrel! He evidently tried to hop from the tree to the roof of the patio, but missed by an inch or two....teehehehe...we checked up on him, he seemed a bit shocked, then carried on. teeheheheeee

The fun never stops!

Keep cool dear one. I keep hearing how brutally hot it is your way!

What a wonderful oasis you've created! It's so great to expand our living area to the outdoors when we can. I know how much we love our little condo patio! All your touches are fabulous but of course the center of it all is your dad's tool box. It's those things that give us that sweet feeling of "home". Beautiful Celeste!

Love & hugs, Edie Marie

Ugh I'm glad we don't get such high temps. I don't handle the heat like I used to! You have a nice outdoor area to relax and enjoy the backyard view. I think I'd be swimming on the pool frequently to cool off! The old tool box is a sweet reminder of your dad. I don't blame you about the faux plants for that spot- makes perfect sense! Have a great weekend!

Celeste, this is such a gorgeous place to unwind! You have turned your porch into an inviting space that I wouldn't want to leave. I love your Dad's tool box; what a great idea to add decorative touches to it. The wood burning stove is also a wonderful idea and provides such a nice place to add seasonal decor. Your view of the pool makes this area a perfect place to relax. Have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Celeste, What an inviting area to relax or entertain. I adore the pillow you added to the sofa. I love the birdies and I think I see birds on the throw as well. Neat idea with the burlap on the lamp shade. I don't have any of the battery operated candles but would love to purchase a few, especially with fall around the corner. Your dad's tool chest is just perfect and I did not realize that you had goldens as pets previously. How I wish you could warm up my outdoor space with your creative ideas! Take care in the heat and enjoy the weekend.

What a beautiful out door space!! We have a nice patio outside off of the dining room...but I wish it had a roof over the patio. We get a lot of stormy weather here and everything blows away...so I gave up on making it pretty out there.

What a gorgeous and relaxing looking outdoor space, Celestina! I had to laugh about your wood stove being moved so many times! I bet that thing is heavy! I think my favorite things about the space are your dad's tool box (love it), and the Golden statue. Well I love everything, really, but those two are the best!! Stay cool:)
