Woodland Tree Base

Most of us have, or had, one or two of these trees.
You know,
the woodland style trees with the real looking trunk.
Evergreen boughs placed from top to bottom
that bend and shape into place.
The bottom of these trees
are a metal base 6 inches square
for balance.
Trouble is, they are not very pretty.

I decided to give these a new look
so I went through my stash of supplies.

I happen to have burlap on hand~

and cotton batting.

Cut a square of the burlap  around the base,

then added the batting around the trunk and top of the metal square.

Gathered some wire and cut a length about 12 inches.

Next, I gathered the burlap up around the trunk
and tied the wire to secure in place.

Trimmed any long burlap and adjusted the gathers.

Tied a red ribbon around the wire and complete.

Here's  a peek of how the trees turned out.
I placed one on each side of the fireplace.
So much better then a metal base
don't you think?

I'll share the rest of this story
in posts to come.

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving week!

Be Blessed~

See you again soon.

Good Morning Celestina, those woodland trees are the best! I found one at the Goodwill last year and it has a metal base that does not appear to go with it but I make it work. Your idea for the burlap base is brilliant! Have fun decorating for Christmas!
Happy Monday

Adorable...so easy and creative. I had one of these years ago and that bottom always bothered me. I may do this to cover my stand...on my artificial tree! ;)

OK Celestia Marie I am shaking my head going "How does she think of all these beautiful things!?" : ) Super big smile~ I have 2 of these trees (6ft & 4ft) we've been using for probably 10 years. And I love them. But always just draped the batting around the bottom (like snow) or a Lodge-look plaid fabric; etc. You have SO inspired me! to try this beautiful look! Thank you so much for sharing. ~Karen O in CO

Looking perfect now, I did the same last year but for a more rustic look I used a very textural thick brown hemp to tie the burlap on. Your bright Red bows look very festive. Looking forward to seeing your Christmas reveal.

Vera

Oh my, what a difference! I've looked at those trees, however, the base was not appealing. IF I had that creative mind that you do, I "might" have thought of something like this. :) Love the red bows!

I think I had a half dozen of those trees during my boutique days, Celeste! I just donated them to my mother's senior hall last year, but maybe she can give them an update with your idea. They look lovely in front of your fireplace!

Oh- that is a cute and clever cover up for those little stands. I have been sticking my own down in galvanized buckets the last couple of years but I love the looks of the burlap, too. Looks like you are on a Christmas roll already! xo Diana

I don't have one of those trees, but I love how you transformed the base. It looks soooo much better, which is probably why I never bought one of those trees!!! I'll be decorating when I come back from Ohio.
Happy Thanksgiving to you and your hubby, my friend! Love and hugs are sent to you.

Another beautiful transformation, Celeste! I love it!

You may have noticed that I decided not to convert my movie blog into another blog. I decided to keep it devoted to movies only (even though I don't want to write about movies anymore). However, since I love blogging so much, I will probably end up starting a new blog.

Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family.

Love,
Patti
