Before the holidays,
I kept eyeing this darling HOME pillow with a red heart on the Pottery Barn site.
I thought it would be a nice addition when I refreshed the living room,
Waited for it to go on sale,
but missed out along the way
as I lost track of it.
So with that, I let the idea go.
Then recently on a supply run to JoAnn
I came across the same style
HOME pillow at a huge discount
but the heart was not red like the PB pillow.
No problem
and nothing that a little fabric paint can't change.
Using acrylic paint
mixed with Fabric Medium~
any paint can be turned into paint for fabric.
I wanted to change the tan heart to red.
This pillow has a zipper opening,
so I took out the insert pillow.
Next I cut a piece of cardboard
to lay inside and under the heart area.
I covered the board with parchment paper.
This is to insure no paint bleeds through the fabric
to the backside.
If the pillow did not have the opening,
I could have painted right over the heart.
Since it would not be open, no problem with bleed through to the back.
To make the fabric paint,
I mix equal parts,
paint to medium.
For example,
5 drops of paint to 5 drops of fabric medium.
Mix all together and begin painting.
Here is where you need to stay in the lines!!
When completely painted, let dry.
After dry, it may need a second coat.
This one did.
Once dry and complete,
pull out the cardboard
and replace the pillow form inside.
You can see in the pic above, the paint never came through even the top layer.
Heat set the paint, by using a dry iron on medium heat
over the design covered with a soft cloth.
Just heat for 30 seconds or so and done.
Don't iron per-say, just hold in place to heat.
The heat set keeps the color from fading when cleaned.
I do not recommend washing this however,
spot clean or dry clean for best longevity.
So here it is on my PB loveseat.
LOVE IT!!
and a close second to the PB pillow I first admired.
The red is the same color on this Paris pillow!
Completed pillow project and ready to enjoy.
Love how the pillow I thought I lost,
found me while looking for art supplies.
AND ON SALE TOO
Score!!
Perfect for the month of February and beyond~~~
I'll be back to share more refresh changes in this room.
Till then
have a great week.

Oh wow, you are good. I love the pillow with the red heart.
Thanks for sharing, have a happy Monday. Enjoy your new week!
Wooooow it looks great!!!
What a lucky find and you made it perfect! That tan heart was kind of bland and the red really made it pop. It looks great with your Paris pillow!
Oh, dear Celestina! I am simply in love with this adorable cushion...it is gorgeous and you're right...perfect for lovely February for always! I love how you changed it to suit your style...so wonderful you got it on sale too!
Wishing you a blessed 2016...I haven't stopped by in simply too long! Hugs and much, much love to you!

Perfect!
In every home, there should be a lovely heart. A red heart stands out in the room and it matches well with the surrounding.
Looks fantastic, well done. Hugs, Valerie
LOVE IT! ANd how great it looks on your white slipcover sofa. What I want to do (but it's expensive) is have a white denim slipcover made for my sage-green velvet sofa in my studio. With that, I can preserve the velvet, change out pillows for each season, and enjoy a lighter feel in the room. Pillows are fun and when you can paint the fabric, all the better. Lovely idea, Celeste!
Now THAT'S a steady hand! It's beautiful - don't put it away after the month of love is over.

I love it when it's craftiness to the rescue! And it's red! Even better! ;-)
There you have it - the perfect pillow with the Red heart. I paint metallic acrylic on silk velvet for my statement pillows. Love how the medium works mixed. Your.selectiom of pillows look very inviting. Have a fun creative week.

Vera
Beautiful, and thank you for the wonderful, very helpful tutorial.
Monday Blessings.
Very easy fix...we forget where 'fabric' paint originally started...way back when you added the medium to our craft paint. Great reminder--of when it was simpler---than having 500 bottles of basically the same thing
beckoning us in the stores to BUY ME_ AND ME__AND ME.
Great tutorial, Celestina, thanks, Sandi
I love the pillow! It goes so well with your décor! Did not know about mixing the acrylic with fabric medium though. I will keep that I mind for the future. Thanks so much for sharing and have a wonderful week :)
Such a good result,..it looks beautiful in red!:)
You are ever so clever, my friend. I must say the red pops out in a beautiful way and I think you made the perfect choice to paint it :)
May you have a blessed week, dear Celeste. Much love to you!
I so "heart" this!!!...I always forget about the fabric paint!....I just added it to my Michaels shopping list....

All good things come to those who wait...is really true for this pillow and you. Love how you painted the heart a rich true red. It looks right at "Home". Enjoying some Winter rain here. After four long years of exceptional drought I am very thankful for days and buckets of glorious rain...El Nino rain! Home Sweet Home...
Great makeover Celeste! I love the red. Sometimes we just have to tweak something a bit to make it work with what we have. Looks fabulous with the other pillow! Love & hugs, Edie

Oh Celeste, the pillow turned out great and the red color goes so well with your other pillow. I will have to make a trip to JoAnn's and see if they have any of those H ❤️ M E pillows left! I love seeing your beautiful home. xo
Hello My Dear...
This is the sweetest pillow, I love how the Lord allows us to have even these little things that we have desired. And once again, I learned something about painting fabric. I did spend the whole day cleaning out my craft room, as after the holidays it was a mess! I never really blog about what I make, I need to try to do more of that this year...
Much Love, Roxy
